One of the greatest keys to victorious Christian living is understanding the difference between the Holy Spirit (big “S”) and our human spirit (little “s”)—and how they work together. Many believers struggle with self-reliance, self-protection, and self-will because they don’t fully grasp this distinction. Before I understood this, many Scriptures felt “greyed out” to me. I couldn’t see how they applied to my life. But when revelation came, it was as if Jesus pulled back a veil. Suddenly, everything started to glow with meaning.
If you’ve wrestled with these same questions, know that God desires to teach you through the Holy Spirit. The best teacher you will ever have is not me, or any other writer or preacher—it is the Holy Spirit Himself. He wants to reveal things to you that no human wisdom can supply. My hope is that this blog will help clarify these concepts so you can become more aware of your spiritual nature, yield more to Spirit rule, and break free from the greatest hindrance of all—self.
1. The Holy Spirit Empowers Your Born-Again Spirit
The Holy Spirit (big “S”) is the power source of the Christian life, but He operates through your human spirit (small “s”). When you are born again, your spirit is recreated in righteousness and holiness (Ephesians 4:24), but it is still your responsibility to nurture it. Just as a baby must grow, your spirit must be strengthened so that it can dominate your soul and body. This is why Paul prayed in Ephesians 3:16 that believers would be “strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man.”
2. Yielding to the Holy Spirit Determines Your Spiritual Capacity
The Holy Spirit is not imposed upon you; He flows through you according to your level of surrender. Many Christians live far beneath their spiritual inheritance because they are still led by their soul (emotions, intellect, will) or body (physical cravings, comfort, fear). This is why some believers experience great spiritual power while others struggle. Think of it like voltage capacity—a weak circuit can only handle so much power, but as your spirit grows strong, your capacity to carry God’s power increases.
3. Transformation Flows from Spirit → Soul → Body
When your spirit is in control, it renews your mind, emotions, and will (Romans 12:2). This leads to breakthrough in your thoughts, healing in your emotions, and alignment in your choices. Over time, as your soul is transformed, your body and lifestyle also change. You begin to experience greater peace, joy, wisdom, and victory. This is the pathway to true freedom in Christ.
Caleb’s Call to Triumph: Position vs. Possession
Imagine the scene in Numbers 13: Twelve spies return from the Promised Land. Ten are filled with fear, seeing only the giants and obstacles. But Caleb and Joshua see only God’s promise. Caleb boldly declares:
“Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it!” (Numbers 13:30)
This story reveals a crucial principle: Position vs. Possession.
- Position – God had already given Israel the land (Numbers 13:2). Their inheritance was guaranteed.
- Possession – They had to rise up in faith and take what God had already given them.
Likewise, we have already been given every spiritual blessing in Christ (Ephesians 1:3), but we must rise up and take possession by walking in Spirit rule.
Many believers are like the ten spies—they see the obstacles, fears, and difficulties, and they shrink back. But Caleb’s spirit was different. He was Spirit-led, not soul-led. He understood that God’s promises require not just belief but bold action.
How to Walk in Spirit Rule
The key to victorious Christian living is simple: SPIRIT RULES. But how do we make this a reality in daily life?
1. Strengthen Your Spirit Daily
Just as we exercise our bodies, we must feed and strengthen our spirit. This happens through:
- Prayer – Communion with God builds spiritual strength.
- The Word – The Bible is spiritual food that nourishes your spirit (Matthew 4:4).
- Worship & Fellowship – Spiritual alignment happens in God’s presence.
2. Deny Self and Yield to the Spirit
Jesus made it clear: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.” (Luke 9:23)
Denying self means:
- Surrendering your will to God’s will.
- Refusing to let emotions and intellect lead.
- Rejecting self-reliance and choosing faith.
The more you yield to the Holy Spirit, the more He is able to fill you and lead you.
3. Guard Your Spirit from Contamination
The condition of your spirit affects your entire life.
Proverbs 4:23 warns: “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”
Be mindful of:
- What you allow into your mind (media, negativity, doubt).
- Who you allow to influence you (friends, mentors, teachers).
- The words you speak (life or death – Proverbs 18:21).
4. Take Possession of Your Inheritance
Like Caleb, take hold of God’s promises with boldness. If the Bible says you are free, healed, and victorious, do not accept anything less. Declare it, believe it, and step into it with bold faith.
Final Thought: Let’s Go Up at Once
Many believers settle for less than what Jesus died to give them. They lower the bar, shrink back in fear, and live beneath their inheritance. But today, God is calling you higher. Like Caleb, He is saying:
“Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome!”
The Holy Spirit in you is urging you to rise up in power. He wants to fill you with boldness, strength, joy, and peace. But your victory depends on Spirit rule. Will you yield? Will you strengthen your spirit? Will you take possession of all that Christ has made available to you?
Today, let Caleb’s call be your call. Step into the fullness of Spirit rule and experience the freedom, power, and inheritance that is already yours in Christ!

Final Thought: Are You Advancing the Kingdom?
The kingdom of God is not a distant reality—it is breaking into our lives right now. The question is: Are you yielding to the King?
God is not just ruling from His throne in heaven—He is waiting to rule through you.
The moment you surrender fully, the kingdom advances—with power, fire, and unstoppable force.
So will you step into it?
