Letting Go of the Past

Devotional
We all have a past—things we regret, things that wounded us, things we wish had turned out differently. But while God is always moving forward, we often stay stuck, replaying old mistakes or clinging to past pain.
But God’s Word is clear: He is doing something new. The enemy wants you to dwell on what was, keeping you locked in shame, regret, or bitterness. But Jesus came to set you free. He doesn’t define you by your past, so why should you?
Letting go doesn’t mean forgetting—it means releasing. It means trusting God with your story, believing that He can bring beauty from ashes. You are not who you used to be. You are not what happened to you. You are a new creation in Christ.
So today, choose to step forward. God is already ahead of you, making a way where there wasn’t one before.
• What part of your past do you still find yourself dwelling on?
• How is holding onto the past keeping you from experiencing the new thing God is doing?
• What step can you take today to trust God with your story?
Prayer:
Lord, I don’t want to be stuck in the past when You are calling me forward. Help me release what I cannot change and embrace the new thing You are doing in my life. I trust that You are making all things new, including me. Amen.
Memory Verse:
“If anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” —2 Corinthians 5:17 (NIV)
