How Memorizing and Meditating on God’s Word Can Transform Your Life
Tony Robbins has a book titled Awaken the Giant Within. I’ve never read it, but I love the title because it exemplifies what I believe God wants to do in each of us: wake us up to the power inside us, so we can live in His freedom and peace.
For Christians, the “giant within” is the Holy Spirit. If you are a believer in Jesus Christ, Scripture tells us, “When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance…”(Ephesians 1:13).
This power isn’t just ordinary—it’s the same power God used to raise Jesus from the dead:
“…That power is the same as the mighty strength he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms” (Ephesians 1:19-20).
And here’s something even more incredible:
“Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us…” (Ephesians 3:20).
Take a moment to think about that. The power of the Holy Spirit within you is capable of doing far more than you could ever ask or imagine.
How Much of That Power Are You Unleashing?
The answer to that question is always up to us. God works in and through us to the extent that we allow Him to. It is God’s will that we, as His children, be conformed to the image of His Son. Why? Not only so that Jesus can be the “firstborn among many brothers and sisters” (Romans 8:29), but also so that we can share in His holiness—which is the ultimate freedom.
We’re talking about boundless love, joy, and peace.
The more you grasp what it means to be conformed to the likeness of Jesus, the more you’ll want this transformation for yourself. Yet, even though God desires to give us this gift of transformation, we often block His work in us with our own free will. And here’s the thing: God will not override our free will.
You are constantly choosing whether to yield your mind to God or to yield it to other things. When you yield your mind to anything other than God, you’re being conformed to the world. But when you yield your mind to Him, transformation begins.
Scripture Memory: A Tool for Transformation
The reason I’m sharing this testimony is to shine a light on the incredible potential of scripture memory. Many people don’t realize how powerful memorizing Scripture can be—especially when combined with meditation—to bring about the “renewing of your mind” (Romans 12:2).
By choosing to focus on God’s Word for even a few minutes a day, I began reinforcing my dependence on Him as my source of limitless power, protection, provision, and peace. Without realizing it, many of us are reinforcing our self-dependence instead—a severely limited source that leaves us struggling with fear, anxiety, frustration, and even despair.
The key to abundant life is God-reliance, not self-reliance. But here’s the catch: whatever we habitually yield ourselves to will change us and eventually have dominion over us.
We get to choose where we place our value and focus. And when we combine these two elements, they ignite passion. Passion for God is something we can cultivate and grow through our choices. As Scripture promises:
“Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know” (Jeremiah 33:3).
“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart” (Jeremiah 29:13).
When you keep seeking God, you fan the gift of God in you into a flame. And when that happens, transformation is inevitable.
Breakthroughs Through Scripture Memory
For me, scripture memory was the starting point of a chain reaction that brought breakthrough after breakthrough in my life.
- Discovering Meditation: Memorizing Scripture led me to learn about meditating on God’s Word. Through this, I began experiencing glimpses of His glory, love, and peace in ways I’d never known.
- Freedom Through Fasting: I also learned about the spiritual discipline of fasting, something I’d never encountered in my upbringing. This discipline freed me from strongholds that had kept me captive for years.
- Personal Answers to Prayer: I received answers to prayer so specific and personal that I was left in awe of God’s faithfulness.
- Healing: After being told by three doctors that there was no permanent solution for my chronic pain, I experienced divine healing that left me in wonder.
- Praying in the Spirit: I discovered the power of praying in the Spirit, a gift I had never been taught about before. This became a game-changer in my relationship with God, strengthening my intimacy with Him and bringing even greater peace and healing.
Scripture Memory Sparked the Flame

When God’s Word becomes deeply planted in your heart, it awakens the giant within. It fans the gift of God into a flame that burns brightly—bringing real and lasting transformation.
This is the kind of transformation you don’t have to force, and you never have to pretend. You’re just different.
For me, scripture memory was the spark. And it can be the spark for you too.
