I was reflecting on something recently—about Christians who really stand out, the rise of moral relativism, and the transforming power of God’s love in our hearts and minds. I wanted to plant those flags where they were needed most—right in the heat of the battle.

But after a tough week, it became clear:

The biggest battle was in my own heart.

Every Choice Moves Us Forward—or Backward

The decisions I was facing felt heavy. My mind was racing with arguments, justifications, and emotions, but in the middle of it all, I was reminded of a simple truth:

📖 “The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.” (Romans 8:6)

With every choice, a transaction is taking place.
With every decision, territory is claimed—either by the Spirit or by the flesh.

Whether we realize it or not, we are constantly submitting to one voice or another—the voice of God’s truth or the voice of our own reasoning, our pride, our fears, or even the enemy’s whispers.

A sale is made in every single choice.

The question is, who’s closing?

“Always Be Closing” – A Lesson from an Unexpected Place

A friend of mine loves the movie Boiler Room (a sales movie about aggressive stockbrokers). He played it enough times that I memorized a few lines.

One that stuck with me was this:

💬 “A sale is made on every call you make. Either you sell the client some stock or he sells you a reason he can’t. Either way, a sale is made—the only question is, who is gonna close? You or him?”

That line hit me hard.

Because, whether we realize it or not, our hearts work the same way.

➡️ Every moment, we are either being sold a lie by the enemy…
➡️ Or we are standing on the truth of God.

There is no neutral ground. A transaction is happening right now, in real time.

The only question is: who is closing?

The Quiet Danger of “Rationalizing” Our Way Out of Grace

This past week, I caught myself in the middle of an internal argument.

I had been forgiving someone over and over and over again. And then came the thought:

“I shouldn’t have to do this anymore. I have forgiven so many times. Surely, I’ve reached my quota.”

I was exhausted. My “extra mile” had turned into a marathon—and I was ready to check out.

And here’s the worst part:

I knew the verses.

📖 “Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Up to seven times?” Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven.” (Matthew 18:21-22)

📖 “For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.” (Matthew 6:14-15)

But I was rationalizing all of it away.

I had convinced myself:

“This is different. God understands. I have gone beyond the call of duty. I deserve a break.”

I would have been the modern-day Pharisee who pulled out a calculator and stuck it in Jesus’ face:

“Well, technically, I’m not at 70 x 7 YET, but LOOK—I’m close! Do you see? Surely I get extra credit for all this?”

That’s not grace.

He didn’t forgive me like that.
He didn’t love me like that.

📖 “As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” (John 13:34)

That means unconditionally. Without record. Without keeping score.

And yet, here I was, trying to negotiate my way out of it.

The Choice We Make—Every Time

C.S. Lewis put it like this:

📖 “Every time you make a choice you are turning the central part of you, the part of you that chooses, into something a little different than it was before… You are slowly turning this central thing into a heavenly creature or a hellish creature.”

Every time we choose bitterness over grace, we are shaping ourselves into something less like Christ.

Every time we choose pride over humility, we are hardening our own hearts.

Every time we choose fear over faith, we are reinforcing a stronghold that God wants to tear down.

And that means…

Every moment is an opportunity for transformation.

What Are You Closing On Today?

If we truly saw our daily choices as spiritual transactions, how would we live differently?

Would we be quicker to forgive?
Would we be slower to speak in anger?
Would we be more intentional about guarding our thoughts?

Would we be more aware that, in every moment, we are either:
✅ Submitting to God’s truth, OR
❌ Being sold a lie from the enemy?

📖 “Take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” (2 Corinthians 10:5)

So, let’s go back to the question from earlier:

Who’s closing?

Are you closing on faith, or is the enemy closing on fear?
Are you closing on grace, or is the enemy closing on bitterness?
Are you closing on truth, or is the enemy closing on deception?

Because a choice is being made—right now.

The only question is, who’s closing the deal?

Final Thoughts & Call to Action

This week, let’s be intentional about recognizing the daily transactions in our hearts.

Start each day with prayer, submitting your mind and heart to God.
Take inventory of your thoughts—who’s “closing” on them?
Choose grace, mercy, and forgiveness, even when it’s hard.
Ask God to renew your mind and transform your choices.

📖 “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” (Romans 12:2)

Transformation happens one decision at a time.
Victory happens one choice at a time.

And if we keep submitting to the Spirit—if we keep choosing faith, choosing grace, choosing love

🔥 We will win the battle. 🔥

The Earth is the Lord’s

Everything we have is on loan from God. Psalm 24:1 reminds us:

“The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it.”

We own nothing, yet in Christ, we have everything. When we recognize this, we can enjoy God’s gifts rightly—not as idols, but as divine trusts.

Let’s live with open hands and open hearts, treasuring the Giver over the gifts.
